What is the difference between Tex*Cote and other products that claim to end the repainting process?

Textured Coatings of America is the industry leader in high-tech coatings. They are a 3rd generation, family-run business which began manufacturing coatings for the government & military, later evolving into the commercial and residential markets. Their products are used on government buildings, FAA towers, bridges, landmarks, schools, hotel & retail chains, etc. and are used around the world. TEX*COTEs products have been thoroughly tested by reputable, independent laboratories, and the results are readily available. Textured Coatings of America has a AAA+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is the highest score available.
Do research, ask questions, get references and dont be fooled by the newcomer/knock-offs claims. Several have come and gone, some have been penalized for false claims, and most base questionable/unsubstantiated test results. Some offer warranties for a longer amount of time then they have been in business. And there are even some secondhand distributors/appliers that offer a warranty thats longer than the actual manufactures warranty!

What gives Tex*Cote its long lasting ability?

TEX*COTE is made up of complex, enhanced resins, polymers and high grade titanium dioxide that have been proven successful over the years in such applications as highway lines, golf ball coatings, chemical plants, and many, many others. The chemical components are listed in the specifications section of TEX*COTEs web site.

What surfaces can Tex*Cote be applied to?

Although some surfaces require different preparation than others, TEX*COTE is formulated to adhere to virtually any paintable surface. TEX*COTE performs great on wood, stucco, hardi-plank, etc., however the manufacturers warranty does not cover application to vinyl or masonite.

Can you only do the trim work and porch rails?

Yes. TEX*COTE can be applied to any paintable surface, however homeowners should not expect to see energy savings if only the trim is coated.

How thick is the Tex*Cote?

TEX*COTE is about 10-15 times thicker than ordinary paint which is very thin. It does not diminish the character of the wood, stucco or surface that it covers. TEX*COTE gives the appearance of a good, quality paint-job and last that way for a very, very long time, while paint typically lasts about 5-7 years.

Does Tex*Cote contain vinyl, ceramic or elastomeric additives?

No. TEX*COTE uses a mixture of high-tech resins and polymers which produce a higher performance coating with extended longevity. Energy saving & longevity claims by competing products are backed by questionable test results. TEX*COTEs products test results are conducted by reputable, independent laboratories, and the information is posted and readily available.

Can TEX*COTE be applied to decks and flooring?

PermaCoat of Charleston does apply floor coatings but the products the we use vary. TEX*COTE makes several great products for concrete and masonry floors, including COOL*TEX which is designed for pool decks. For wood decks we offer several commercial grade stains and coatings.

What happens to the wood that is being covered?

TEX*COTE will improve the look by concealing small cracks that may have developed with age or due to prior poor paint jobs. TEX*COTE adheres to the wood and protects it for years to come. TEX*COTEs molecular structure prevents water from penetrating, but allows air and water vapor to breath out which prevents rotting. This technology is similar to Gortex material, in that it allows air to come and go but it blocks water from penetrating.

How does the cost compare to traditional vinyl siding?

Typically TEX*COTE is equal to or less than QUALITY vinyl siding. However, TEX*COTE is a much better choice for typical homes. Vinyl does not weatherproof a home. It allows moisture, insect, plant growth and mold beneath its surface. TEX*COTE has considerably greater energy conservation attribute than vinyl siding, plus vinyl does not stand up to storm winds and impact as well as TEX*COTE.

What colors are available?

TEX*COTEs COOL*WALL is available in over 1800 current colors and can be custom matched to any sample color. On the other hand, vinyl siding typically only offers 7 or 8 color choices.

Is This A Green Product?

TEX*COTE is and Official Green Product and the only vertical wall coatings manufacturer who is a member of the US Green Building Council. TEX*COTE coatings are low in VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and are ECO-friendly, plus they have proven energy saving abilities. In addition, because the TEX*COTE lasts so long, it reduces the production of harsh chemicals and emissions involved in the ongoing production and application of regular paints. Also keep in mind that as paint breaks down it re-enters the environment.

Will Tex*Cote lower energy bills?

According to the Department of Energy's laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee which performed a two year independent study, TEX*COTEs COOL*WALL coating can save up to 21.9% on your home cooling bills. It contains a UV reflective ingredient that reflects heat. This high-tech additive is also used in the coatings of the Space Shuttle and the Stealth Bombers as well as many other military vehicles that require a lower heat signature. Buyers need to beware of competing products that make energy savings claims. Ask for confirmed test results. Some companies base their claims on old test results on the additives, but not the actual coating. Others just make unsubstantiated claims and some have been penalized by the FTC.

Can I get an estimate over the phone or by e-mail?

Unfortunately no. Many variables affect the cost of the application of TEX*COTE. The type of surface, its condition, the absorption of substrate, amount of repairs, prep-work and the required detailed work. Also affecting the price is the number of windows, doors, columns, linear feet of rails, soffit & fascia trim, etc. Each job is different, thats why PermaCoat of Charleston offers a completely free, no obligation inspection and estimate. We can also work up an estimate using blueprints for new construction.
